Replacing Silver/Mercury Fillings

Many people don’t realize their old, “silver” amalgam fillings are actually 50% mercury. Due to their metallic nature, these amalgams expand differently from the tooth when exposed to hot or cold. Therefore, in many cases, fractures can be caused in the tooth that can go undetected and lead to sensitivity, pain, and/or damage. These are all good reasons to consider having Dr. Hekmat safely remove your old silver/mercury fillings and replace them with new white fillings or porcelain overlays.

Many of Dr. Hekmat’s patients choose to replace their old fillings strictly for cosmetic reasons, preferring white, tooth-colored modern restorations that actually bond to and protect the tooth, compared to the many shortcomings associated with the “black” fillings of the past.
